The Wessex family's trip to Gatcombe Park.

Surprise, surprise, I am back with a fresh new post much, much sooner! The Festival of British Eventing which takes place at Gatcombe Park, home of the Princess Royal and her family, has started yesterday on 7th August, and will end on Sunday, 9th August.

Sophie and Edward took their kids, Louise and James for a fun day! They were joined by Autumn Phillips, wife of Princess Royal's son, Peter, who helps his father in organizing the event. I also spotted Autumn's older daughter, 4 year old Savannah and younger, 3 year old Isla. They were both sliding along with James on a bouncy castle, under the watchful eye of their mothers. And they had an amazing time.

The Countess looked great as always, in a casual yet chic outfit. And I adore her sunglasses. She must have gotten those during a winter break, The Wessex family often holidays in Switzerland. I visited this country only once, it was my long lasting wish, to travel to the village where Audrey Hepburn used to live - Tolochenaz. It finally happened several years ago.

I adore this little family, and it's always great to see them out and about having fun. Louise is such a daddy's girl in the pictures - she is so tall and dressed like a tomboy. She and Prince Edward looked so alike in a matching outfits & baseball caps.
The Festival of British Eventing incorporates the British Open, Intermediate and Novice Championships, as well as the new 'Amateur' Championship which are being contested over a brand new Cross country track. There is also a shopping village, arena attractions including World Record Breaking stunt rider 'The Kangaroo Kid' and entertainment for all the family.

It all started over thirty years ago in 1983, “Princess Anne and I moved into Gatcombe Park in the late 1970s and, soon after, started wondering about the possibility of staging a horse trials,” explains Captain Mark Phillips [former husband of Princess Royal and father of Peter & Zara]. “We had both been competing internationally and wanted to put something back into the sport.  In those days we only had one advanced class, thinking that if we offered a good competition at that level, good riders would come.
The British Open Championship was introduced in 1986 followed, seven years later, by the Smith & Williamson British Intermediate Championship. You will find full history here.

Daily Mail's article about yesterday's fun activities for Zara Phillips and her daughter Mia. Today's article, sadly nothing on The Wessexes. Tiny article in the Express. Rex has a great gallery of pictures. Gallery at Getty can be found here. Pure People gallery here. And Royalista has many pics as well.
