The Western Canada Aviation Museum was incorporated in 1974 for the preservation and promotion of Canada's aviation history. A fully enclosed flight deck to watch the landings and takeoffs at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport is one of museum's attractions. The Museum has an active Restoration Department and has returned many bent and twisted aircraft to full display condition.

The collection is housed in an original Trans-Canada Air Lines aircraft hangar and includes a recreated terminal departure centre and several one-of-a-kind aircraft such as Canada's first helicopter, the CL-84 "Tilt-wing," Avrocar "flying saucer" (full-scale movie model), historic military jets, bush planes, and commercial aircraft.

The museum has plans to expand as a conceptual drawing of the new building was unveiled recently. The building will feature a roof shaped like the wing of a plane. It will be located next to the Richardson International Airport terminal, on the land of the former airport terminal. "With your help, our goal is to build a new heritage attraction that will stand proudly “next door” to the new terminal in the heart of the airport campus at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport". You will find more here.

TRH's also sat down for a private work lunch with Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon, the premier and his wife, Esther Pallister. Prior to the visit, Dwight MacAulay, Manitoba's chief of protocol. said that the lunch will be a casual event, and they plan to serve food made in Manitoba. High Tea Bakery in Winnipeg has made royal-themed fancy imperial cookies in advance of Wednesday's visit. "It's always wonderful for their honours and for the premier to have this occasion to sit down and have a working lunch with the royal couple," said Mr MacAulay.

Filmon, took part in the gold medal ceremony for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at the museum, where HRH honoured a group of 50 young Manitobans for their accomplishments." [The award] encourages young people to be the best possible citizens they can be," said Mr MacAulay.

There were no road closures and no long motorcades as Sophie was driven to Deer Lodge Centre by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in traffic "just like anybody else," Mr MacAulay explained. Sophie entered Deer Lodge Centre from Portage Avenue at around 1 p.m. "It's the best shot people will get at spotting one of the royals", Mr MacAulay said prior to the visit.

I also received a message and pictures from Tracey Houston, who wrote: "I live in Winnipeg and got to see the lovely Countess of Wessex in person today ... she is absolutely lovely. There wasn't too many people as its cloudy and cool today and most people are at work except me, I took the day off especially for this". Thank you Tracy, it was very kind of you!

Afterwards The Earl and Countess took short flight and arrived at the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport in the afternoon, appoximately at 2.45, where they were greeted by Saskatchewan Lt.-Gov. Vaughn Solomon Schofield. The Earl of Wessex inspected the Quarter Guard, comprised of Moose Jaw's Saskatchewan Dragoons.

Upon arrival, TRH's were received by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan (the Hon. Vaughn Solomon Schofield). Events attended by TRH's included a VIP reception, dinner and the performance of one of Globe’s most popular productions, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline starring Saskatchewan’s Devra Straker.
At 8 p.m.: Prince Edward delivered the Royal Address. It was a humorous speech in which HRH said: "To be honest there isn't a single person I can think of thanking — unless there's a theatre cat, of course, I don't know." Edward gave credit the directors, production teams, writers and volunteers at the theatre. "It is extraordinary, but it would not happen without you. None of this magic would have been possible without you and so you're all to give yourselves a very large pat on the back and say 'Well done'."
Globe Theatre is a national centre of excellence in the production of theatre-in-the-round and in fostering the work of Saskatchewan artists. Founded in 1966 by Ken and Sue Kramer, Globe was Saskatchewan's first professional theatre company. The theatre is housed in the Prince Edward Building in downtown Regina, a designated heritage site that was built in 1906 as the Regina Post Office and RCMP headquarters and later became City Hall.
