At the Forestry Commission stand, Annie Ockelford - Lecturer in Physical Geography, University of Brighton, explained the restoration of the new forest streams to The Countess of Wessex. According to press release, Geography and Environment at the University of Southampton, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission, the British Society for Geomorphology and the universities of Brighton and Hull have won the Maldwin Drummond Challenge Cup for best Trade Stand at the New Forest and Hampshire County Show for their exhibition demonstrating how Forestry Commission programmes are helping to restore and support the area’s natural habitats. Sophie also visited Discovery Zone of the New Forest Centre, Gilbert Whites House tweeted that The Countess of Wessex identified some of their footprints at the Forest Show. Also Exxon Mobil UK stand got a royal visit. Sorry, but that's all I have been able to gather for now.
The New Forest Show is a three day county show event in Brockenhurst which started in 1921, which is run by over 300 volunteers each year. The New Forest Show was originally set up to give families a great day out focused around traditional country pursuits.The New Forest Show has now become a major event within Hampshire with thousands of visitors coming along every year.
A full range of equestrian events and horticultural displays have been held, as well as livestock competitions. Animals on show included cattle and sheep, plus a poultry section, rabbits, cage birds, and honey bees.
During the show, 596 people participated in the attempt to break the World Record for the 'Most Wellington Boots Thrown Simultaneously'. The event took place in the Hoburne East Ring, in aid of disabled children's charity SmallSteps. Organisers are waiting for official confirmation of a world record from Guinness.
