HRH visits Morden College

Today (4th of July) The Countess of Wessex as Patron, attended a Morden College Founder's Day in Blackheath, London. The College is a long-standing charity which has been providing residential care in southeast London for more than 300 years. HRH visited Morden College for the first time back in June 2013 and shortly afterwards she became their Patron. My post can be found here.

During the visit, HRH has met some of the residents of Morden College, and officially opened the Alexander Court, which is a part of the Morden College campus in Blackheath and is used to accommodate the elderly. There are twelve existing old person's flats housed within three 1950's buildings. Following an initial appraisal for refurbishment it was decided that they were not fit for modern use so the three buildings were redeveloped with a new purpose-built block capable of providing thirty modern flats. Info after The Brunton Boobyer Partnership (firm of Chartered Architects), link here.

After HRH's visit one resident of Morden College said that The Countess, "is one of the most delightful people anyone could wish to meet."

Also today, HRH as Chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Women's Network Forum, chaired a meeting at Sea Containers, 18 Upper Ground in London.
