The Queen's Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour) with The Wessex Family

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family, was present at the Birthday Parade on Horse Guards at which the Queen's Colour of Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards was trooped. The Field Officer in Brigade Waiting, Lieutenant Colonel James Thurstan, Coldstream Guards, commanded the Parade.

Since 1748 Trooping the Colour marks the official birthday of the British sovereign. It is being held in London annually on a Saturday in June, on Horse Guards Parade by St. James's Park, and coincides with the publication of the Birthday Honours List.

In the first carriage travelled The Duchess of Cornwall (wearing Anna Valentine dress & coat and Philip Treacy hat) and The Duchess of Cambridge with Prince Harry. The Duchess has chosen new hat by Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen coat-dress, first worn to Princess Charlotte's Christening. More on The Cambridge's family at my twin blog.

In the second carriage The Duke of York travelled with his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. And moving onto third carriage with The Wessex family. This year and this event marked another debut for 8 year old Viscount James, who joined his parents, TRH's Earl and Countess of Wessex and his older sister, Lady Louise in a carriage procession, ahead of the ceremony.

The Countess of Wessex wore new to me Emilio Pucci Embellished stretch-wool jacket with another creation of Jane Taylor Millinery. Lady Louise looked lovely in her hairdo accessorized with hair comb styled with oak leaves and acorns. She wore blue blazer with printed dress and her heart necklace, that I have spotted some time ago, it could be from Tiffany.

The Earl of Wessex wore the uniform of the Royal Colonel of The London Scottish Regiment which includes a kilt and black and white feathered cap. Viscount Severn was very elegant in his suit and tie.

There were more than 300 horses on parade, and musicians from all the Household Division Bands & Corps of Drums and marched and played as one. The famous Drum Horses of the Household Cavalry Band were carrying priceless antique solid silver drums weighing 80lbs each.

Hundreds of hours of training, rehearsal and preparations have gone into making this a world class event fit for a Queen.  All those troops taking part are operational soldiers first and foremost and have balanced honing their ceremonial skills with tough combat training at home and overseas. The medals on their chests are testament to their frontline service to the nation.

After the Parade, Her Majesty (and the rest of her immediate family) drove in carriages back to Buckingham Palace at the head of the Queen's Guard, after which the Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family, have watched a fly-past of Royal Air Force aircrafts.

Starting at 1pm, eight ‘elements’ consisting of between two and nine aircraft each, passed over 30 seconds apart from one another and included helicopters, fast jets, World War II aircraft, the Voyager, a C-17 transporter and the Red Arrows.

The formation was led by helicopters from four squadrons, all of which are marking their centenary, and include a Chinook, a Griffin, the AW109SP and a Puma 2. They were followed by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Spitfire and Hurricane.
