First day of Royal Ascot with The Earl & Countess of Wessex

The Earl & Countess of Wessex attended first day of Royal Ascot today. Sadly they didn't arrive in the carriages, I am still hoping they will get to arrive like that in the near future, as then they will surely be photographed in much better way.

HM The Queen (wearing mustard yellow Stewart Parvin coat & Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat) arrived in the first carriage along with The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York and Prince Harry. In the second carriage arrived Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall (in pink Bruce Oldfield and Philip Treacy hat), with Princess Beatrice and Hon. Charles Fellowes.

The Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward enjoyed races along with some guests. I am not sure who they were apart from Caroline Neville, The Countess of Derby. She is married to Edward Stanley, 19th Earl of Derby. The Derby family can trace its horse racing heritage back to the 5th Earl of Derby in the sixteenth century. Their son Edward Stanley is the godson of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and was Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II between 2008 and 2012, appearing in three Garter services and four State Openings of Parliament. HM The Queen, who has attended every Royal Ascot during her reign, wrote a foreword to the official programme: "I have been deeply touched by the kind birthday wishes I have received this year and to have this milestone commemorated in the title of Royal Ascot's centrepiece race, The Gold Cup. Of my many memories, visits to Royal Ascot with my family are amongst the most cherished."

The Queen first attended Ascot when she was 19 years old and is a passionate horse owner. To mark her 90th birthday, The Racing Post has commissioned a special brooch as a gift. Brooch is made of 18ct white gold and consists of diamond-mounted galloping racehorse, ridden by an 18ct yellow gold enamelled jockey in HM's racing colours. It's hand-made by Alabaster & Wilson Ltd and its 19th century-inspired design is taken from a 1975 portrait of Fred Archer, jockey to Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VII).

Sophie has watched St James's Palace Stakes in the Royal box. That race was won by Frankie Dettori and Galileo Gold, I am however nor sure if HRH has won her bet?! Lanfranco "Frankie" Dettori, MBE, an Italian horse racing jockey received his trophy from Prince Harry afterwards.
