Today, on the 30th of June, The Earl of Wessex as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation and The Countess of Wessex held a lunch for Films without Borders at Bagshot Park. Regarding photos - event was considered private, so they won't be shared.
Films Without Borders (FWB) is a non-political UK registered charity that provides hands-on educational filmmaking workshops for youth between the ages of 15 – 19, living in challenging countries around the globe. FWB’s intention is to break down barriers, build bridges, and create a dialogue whilst simultaneously teaching youth the first stages of film production. You will learn more here.
In the evening, The Earl of Wessex as Patron of The London Mozart Players and The Countess of Wessex as Colonel-in-Chief of Corps of Army Music attended a celebratory royal concert "Queen & Country" in honour of HM The Queen's 90th birthday. The concert took place at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon before its temporary closure for refurbishment in July 2016.
Fairfield Halls is an arts, entertainment and conference centre located in Croydon, London. It opened in 1962 with a performance attended by Prince Edward’s grandmother, the Queen Mother. The large concert hall is frequently used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings. The venue was 50 years old in 2012 and an anniversary concert by the London Mozart Players was attended by the Earl of Wessex.
The "Queen & Country" programme celebrated and paid tribute to the LMP's historic relationship with the Fairfield Halls and the borough of Croydon, as well as honoured the centenary of the Somme. Concert included performances from the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra (Corps of Army Music), Bocheng Wang (winner of the 2015 Croydon Concerto Competition), the Citadel Band of the Salvation Army, and a chorus of voices made up of Croydon school children and community choirs.
The concert was opened with a fanfare composed by a local secondary school student and concluded with a specially commissioned piece by the British composer Roxanna Panufnik ‘Fanfare for Fairfield’.Julia Desbruslais, executive director of the LMP, said the concert celebrated ‘the dawn of a new age and the regeneration of this important establishment.’
I also wanted to add, that yesterday, The Countess of Wessex, also representing The Earl of Wessex, was present at the Funeral of Sir Brian McGrath (Extra Equerry to The Duke of Edinburgh and formerly Private Secretary and Treasurer to His Royal Highness) which was held in St. Barnabas Church, Peasemore, Berkshire. You will learn more about Sir Brian in this obituary by Express.
In the afternoon on the same day, Her Royal Highness as Colonel-in-Chief of Corps of Army Music visited Kneller Hall at Twickenham, Middlesex. This was to take a regimental photograph as the Corps of Army Music will be leaving Kneller Hall. Picture will be internal to the CoAM, but there's a chance that at some point it will be released. But it rather will be later than sooner.
