The Earl & Countess of Wessex held a 60th Anniversary Dinner for The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain

Yesterday, The Earl of Wessex as Patron of The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and The Countess of Wessex, hosted a private dinner at Bagshot Park in celebration of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain’s Diamond Anniversary. Prince Edward became the Royal Patron of The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain in 1987.

Guests enjoyed a performance by members of the National Youth Theatre including a scene from William Shakespeare’s Henry VI part III and medley of songs featuring Diamonds are Forever by John Barry, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by the Beatles and Rhianna’s Diamonds.

Guests included: National Youth Theatre Chair - Dawn Airey (Chief executive officer & CEO of Getty Images), Artistic Director Paul Roseby, Patrons Rosamund Pike and Sarah Solemani and alumna Jessica Hynes.

Other attendees: Mark Simpson and Deidre Simpson, Peter Clayton, Kevin McGrath (Deputy Lieutenant of Great London) and his wife Kate McGrath. Also Nanette Forbes (actress and author), Sam Sargant of Playful Productions, Richard Wilkinson (Head of Development of NYT), Nia Janis of Playful Productions and members of the National Youth Theatre.

Celebrations of National Youth Theatre’s 60th anniversary will continue throughout the year, with other events including an Autumn season of three productions at the Ambassadors Theatre and a Diamond Gala on Sunday 18 September at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre. 

The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain is a world-leading youth arts organisation, established in 1956 by Michael Croft, a teacher at Alleyn's Boys' School in Dulwich as the first youth theatre in the world. For over the past 60 years NYT nurtured the talent of hundreds of thousands of young people.

National Youth Theatre inspires, trains, and showcase exceptional performers and theatre technicians aged 14-25 from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Each year NYT reaches out across the UK to discover diverse new talent.

NYT's world renowned alumni include: Dame Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Colin Firth, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Day-Lewis, Orlando Bloom, Catherine Tate, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ashley Jensen, Sir Derek Jacobi, Timothy Dalton, David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Hugh Bonneville, Matt Smith and many more. Former NYT members also include sector-leaders in politics, business, law, the media and medicine.
