HRH will cycle from Holyrood to Buckingham Palace for her 'Diamond Challenge'!

Following news released earlier in the day, it looks like we no longer have to wait to learn what The Countess of Wessex's Diamond Challenge will be. Just after midnight my time, Daily Mail published an article (click here) in which we find out that HRH is gearing up for the 'Palace to Palace' super long distance cycle challenge which will take place in September. The distance is more than 400 miles!! Over the course of 7 days, HRH will travel by bike from Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland to Buckingham Palace in London, England.

HRH undertakes her 'Diamond Challenge' to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. During that challenge, The Countess will be accompanied by representatives of each of the military units she has close associations with: RAF Wittering; 5th Battalion The Rifles; Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps and Corps of Army Music.

Very recently, Sophie joined members of the British Army for high intensity training in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. According to the article in DM, HRH could be seen racing ahead of her competitors, maintaining a huge grin on her face throughout the trials. Sophie has been training hard with the help of one of the Army’s Physical Training Instructors from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst - Staff Sergeant Rachel McKenzie. To view video click here.

I am very excited for this challenge... First of all it starts in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a very historic & beautiful place, which I had a chance to visit. HRH managed to combine her challenge with her Honorary Military appointments, which is very fitting, as usually Armed Forces personnel from all three (last year four) Services that Countess have honorary military appointments takes part in the annual 'Countess of Wessex Cup', in which they compete against each other. This time, members of those units will support Sophie in her very demanding & physical challenge and I like this idea very much!

Also tomorrow, The Countess of Wessex will attend the first official Garden Party of 2016 at Buckingham Palace hosted by Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Edward will be missed as he is currently in Italy, on behalf of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation.
