visit on behalf of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation & 100 Women in Hedge Funds' Next Generation Initiatives

Sixth day of the visit (7th March, Monday) - Cayman Islands, Little & Grand.
Today is the last day of the Caribbean tour, it sure was fun & lovely for me, to write about all those different engagements.

In the morning, The Earl of Wessex as President of Central Caribbean Marine Institute and The Countess of Wessex attended a Reception at Little Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Afterwards, TRH's have travelled back to the Grand Cayman, where they attended separate luncheons. The Earl of Wessex as Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, attended a Reception and Lunch at Government House at Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Meanwhile, The Countess of Wessex as Global Ambassador of 100 Women in Hedge Funds' Next Generation Initiatives, attended a Reception and Lunch at The National Gallery, which kindly let me use few of today's pictures. The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) was established in 1996 and it is an inclusive gathering place which honours artistic heritage, celebrates art and seeks to provide inspiring learning experiences for all of its diverse public. The Countess of Wessex highlighted the local chapter’s efforts to launch the Next Generation Initiatives in Cayman. Currently there are NextGen programmes in London, Hong Kong, New York and Southern California. The focus of the programme will be on ensuring training, guidance, and industry focused scholarships. HRH briefly addressed an audience of Cayman committee members at a luncheon in her honour. The Countess said: “I hope that every young woman that comes into the financial services industry here is going to take full advantage of what you have to offer; of what we have to offer to our next generations.” You can view the visit & speech here.

As Global Ambassador (since November 2015), HRH serves as an advocate for increased diversity in the financial services industry, and for raising the industry’s visibility and appeal as young women consider career paths. Sophie said: “I’ll be looking to serve as an advocate for increased diversity in the financial services industry, as well as raising the industry’s visibility and appeal for young women considering their career options”. She added: “Mentoring is a powerful tool to aiding success”.

During the luncheon Sophie met Jazlyn Hydes (Little Sister), from Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands. Jazlyn was there with her Big Sister, Leslie Arnott. Jazlyn meets her Big Sister one afternoon a week as part of the BBBS School Based Mentoring Programme. Jazlyn talked to Sophie about being a princess, pretty dresses and how she wants to be a gymnast when she grows up.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Cayman Islands is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that try to have a measurable impact on youth. 100 Women in Hedge Funds (‘100WHF’) has announced that Big Brothers Big Sisters Cayman (BBBS) has been designated as its 2016 Cayman Beneficiary. In the afternoon, The Earl of Wessex as Trustee and The Countess of Wessex as Global Ambassador of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation, attended a Reception for young people who have reached the Gold Standard in the Award at Government House at Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. The Gold Award was presented to Lashonda Powell.

At the award ceremony, Prince Edward said: “Life is full of challenges and this award prepares for those,” he said. “The award also presents you with lots of opportunities. If you seize the opportunity you have today and learn from the skill and the experiences we give you here, then whatever opportunities life throws at you in the future, you’re going to have the confidence to be able to seize those, to go through those doors wherever they open up.”

In the evening, the royal couple departed from Owen Roberts International Airport, Grand Cayman, for the United Kingdom.
