Very recently, I found out that The Countess of Wessex has written a new foreword to The Women’s Land Army book by Vita Sackville-West, under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. It was originally published in 1944 and dedicated ‘to the Patron of the Women’s Land Army: Her Majesty the Queen'. It was reprinted by the Imperial War Museum in 1997 and this year by Uniform Press of Unicorn Publishing Group.

This book traces the history of the Women’s Land Army from its inception in 1939 through 1944, when the Women’s Land Army was still active. It also gives an insight into the work undertaken by the Land Girls and provides the chronological context to its formation and the part played in both World Wars. For full review of the book click here. The author of the book, The Honourable Victoria Mary Sackville-West, Lady Nicolson, CH (9 March 1892 – 2 June 1962), usually known as Vita Sackville-West, was an English poet, novelist, and garden designer.
