The event I have been waiting for has finally started! Yesterday in the morning,The Countess of Wessex as Combined Services Winter Sports Association Patron, departed from Heathrow Airport, London, for Switzerland and this afternoon arrived at Geneva International Airport. From Geneva HRH travelled to Meribel. Mr. Tim Roberts is in attendance throughout the visit.

After arrival, in the evening, Her Royal Highness watched the Snowboard Parallel Slalom Floodlit Finals. Afterwards, The Countess of Wessex, and Juliet Stuttard of PwC presented the prizes.

The Combined Services Winter Sports Association (CSWSA) celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2016. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Inter Services Snow Sports Championships held in Meribel, France. Personnel from the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF) compete in various disciplines throughout the week.
This year’s Combined Services Inter Service Snow Sports Competition was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton GCB CBE ADC Gen. The opening ceremony took place on the 31st January and witnessed all 144 competitors marching out before a distinguished crowd of supporters.
The CSWSA also holds other annual Inter-Services events, including:
Cresta Run held in St Moritz, Switzerland.
Ice Sports Competition: Bobsleigh, Skeleton Bobsleigh and Luge, held in Winterberg, Germany.
Nordic Competition, including Biathlon, held in Ruhpolding, Germany.
The CSWSA also supports Combined Service teams who go on to compete in their discipline’s national championship events. The CSWSA funds all these competitions through sponsorship donations and derives no public financial support. Furthermore all competitors make substantial contributions to their own costs throughout the season and the CSWSA has no full time employees; it is a volunteer organisation that relies on serving personnel who have a passion for winter sports giving their free time to prepare the events and run the organisation.
