HRH attends an annual Court lunch with the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers.

TRH's Earl & Countess of Wessex have started New Year with official engagements on the 12th January. In the afternoon, The Earl of Wessex as a Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award held a Meeting. Later, His Royal Highness, Royal Colonel of the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, and The Countess of Wessex, Colonel-in-Chief of Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, received General Sir Nicholas Carter (Chief of the General Staff). Such meetings are private.

On the next day (13 January), The Couness of Wessex attended Lunch with the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers at Wax Chandlers's Hall in London, which is located in the heart of the City, on a site the company owned for over 500 years.

The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers is one of the oldest livery companies of the City of London, it was established before 1330. In 1371 the Company gained Ordinances that gave them control over the trade of Wax Chandlers in the City of London. It is now governed by a Royal Charter, which was granted in 1484 – it is the only livery company to have a charter of King Richard III. You can learn more here. More about the origins of the company can be found here.

The business of a Wax Chandler was the preparation, making and sale of beeswax and beeswax products. Today, the Wax Chandlers' Company no longer operates primarily as a trade association. Its role has evolved into being a ceremonial, networking, educational and charitable institution.

The Company has re-established its links with the modern wax industry and it continues to promote excellence and integrity in the trade. Through its historical links with the honeybee the Company is interested in promoting a healthy environment, and as a long established City organisation the Company seeks to encourage and promote sustainability and good governance in the City.

Yesterday, The Countess of Wessex attended an annual Court lunch held in honour of the Lord Mayor - Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor, Alderman The Lord Mountevans, who was the principal guest. HRH was invited in her capacity as the Royal Colonel of 5th Battalion The Rifles, which is one of the Wax Chandlers' Company's military affiliations (along with HMS Protector and RAF Coningsby) and as such there were also representatives from the 5th Battalion The Rifles.

Very happy to be finally able to share pictures from this event. With kind thank you to Georgina for her help.
