Official Signing for Qatar Creating Vision & Tomorrow's People annual Awards with HRH

Today, The Countess was busy again, her day started at The Embassy of the State of Qatar in London. HRH as Global Ambassador of International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and in support of Orbis UK attended the Official Signing for 'Qatar Creating Vision'.

Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani with ambassador Yousef bin Ali al-Khater, QDF general director Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari, The Countess of Wessex - IAPB Global Ambassador and Orbis’s special envoy to the Middle East, Robert Walters, at the ceremony.
The Qatar Development Fund (QDF) has donated $8m to eye care organisations who are part of the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) as part of the joint ‘Qatar Creating Vision’ initiative, which will fund surgical operations, support health centres and supply high-quality medical services in the developing world.

Qatar Development Fund (QDF) is a Qatari public organization established under the laws of the State of Qatar. The QDF, on behalf of  Qatar, is responsible for the implementation of international development programmes through the provision of loans, grants and technical assistance to developing countries and key charities.

Also contributing to the ‘Qatar Creating Vision’ initiative will be an alliance of doctors from around the world, including Qatari doctors specialising in ophthalmology and world leading vision experts who volunteer for Orbis, an international blindness prevention charity, who are part of the IAPB. A number of Qatari youth volunteers will also look to support the project.

The initiative was cemented with the signing of an agreement at the Qatari Embassy in London between Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, the General Director of Qatar Development Fund and Robert Walters, Orbis’ special envoy to the Middle East.

Orbis programmes focus on the prevention of blindness and the treatment of blinding eye diseases in developing countries. Since 1982, Orbis capacity-building programmes have enhanced the skills of 325,000 eye care personnel and provided medical and optical treatment to more than 23.3million people in 92 countries. In the evening, The Countess of Wessex as Tomorrow's People Patron, attended the Annual Awards for Achievement at The Grange City Hotel in London.

It's annual awards recognise the achievements of young people who have achieved despite their disadvantaged start. The Tomorrow's People Awards also celebrate partner organisations who support the charity.

Kane Seldon, Karen Stoton and Paul Williams were awarded by The Countess of Wessex with The Adult Achiever of the Year Award sponsored by Sir George Bull.

Young men, Ricky Shearsby & Eliab Sissaye, talked how Tomorrow's People charity has changed their lives. "I was going on the wrong path but with your support I've turned my life around" said Eliab. Ricky Shearsby works currently for TP as Task Force Coordinator for the Working It Out Program in Hammersmith West London.
