Afterwards The Countess attended an Armistice Day Service at The Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden, 11 Hanover Square in New York.

11 November is known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Poppy Day. From 2014 until 2018, this day takes on added significance as it marks the centenary of the First World War years.

During the First World War, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. In many parts of the world, people observe a two-minute silence at 11am on 11 November.
In Poland we celebrate a National Independence Day to commemorate the anniversary of the restoration of Poland's sovereignty as the Second Polish Republic in 1918, after 123 years of partition by the Russian Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia and the Habsburg Empire. It is a non-working day in my country.

The Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden commemorates the 67 British victims of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on July 6, 2010.
Originally planned as The British Memorial Garden, it was officially named The British Garden at Hanover Square by Prince Harry on May 29, 2009.

On May 2, 2012, it was renamed as 'Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden' at a rededication ceremony led by the Dean of Westminster Abbey. This was to include victims of other Commonwealth countries who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

This was followed with a visit to the very poignant place - 9/11 Memorial and Museum at 180 Greenwich St World Trade Center in New York.
HRH started her visit at one of the Memorial Reflection Pools where she paid her respects to the victims of 9/11 attacks. The memories of that day are still with me, and I don't think they will ever leave me. I'm cetain it was a very emotional moment for HRH.
As part of ongoing commitment to honoring USA’s veterans, 9/11 Memorial recognizes the U.S. military service of those who were killed on September 11, 2001, by placing a yellow rose at each veteran's name.
The Countess of Wessex has left a bouquet of flowers with handwritten note that reads "In memory of those who lost their lives so tragically. Sophie."
Memorial is "honoring the lives of those who were lost is at the heart of our mission. Occupying eight of the 16 acres at the World Trade Center, the Memorial is a tribute to the past and a place of hope for the future."
The Countess also visited the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center to pay her respects to the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attacks of 26th February 1993 and 11th September 2001.
Between where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood, a concrete wall now exists.  The wall, one of the most deeply personal aspects of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, separates the public area from a repository of nearly 8,000 unidentified human remains.
The installation surrounding the "No day shall erase you from the memory of time" Virgil quote is called “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That Tuesday Morning.” The artist Spencer Finch designed the installation. He painted 2,983 watercolors to represent each of the victims of the attacks, each unique, just like the people who were taken from us too soon. Source.
The National September 11 Memorial Museum serves as the country's principal institution concerned with exploring the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring 9/11's continuing significance.
Representatives from the 9/11 Memorial guided HRH The Countess of Wessex around the 9/11 Museum where HRH toured the Memorial's powerful permanent exhibition.
