Council Fire began in 1976 with a small group of people meeting for weekly worship at St. Barnabas Church. They recognized that increasing numbers of Native people were gravitating to the downtown core and many of them were becoming homeless. On June 1st, 1978, Council Fire was given a small space at All Saints Church at Sherbourne and Dundas; and it was there that a "centre" began to take shape. For full history check here.

Then, The Lieutenant Governor hosted a lunch for The Countess, leaders working with Aboriginal communities throughout the GTA, and a group of women leaders representing the cultural, business, academic, and philanthropic sectors.

This working visit also places emphasis on The Countess’ links to Canadian organizations and the Canadian Forces and as Patron of the Toronto General and Western Hospital. This is HRH's 13th visit to Canada.

During those events, The Countess of Wessex & Lieutenant Governor were accompanied by a group of women business leaders. The delegation had an opportunities to learn about the unique issues facing Aboriginal Canadians living in an urban setting.

In the evening, HRH as Patron of Toronto General Hospital, attended a “Partners for Discovery” Dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto. That event was private.
