James Carnegie, 3rd Duke of Fife (23 September 1929 – 22 June 2015) was the grandson of Louise, Princess Royal, a daughter of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. The Duke was the only son of Princess Maud, the younger daughter of the 1st Duke of Fife and Louise, Princess Royal. The Duke had one daughter, Lady Alexandra Etherington (née Carnegie; born 20 June 1959).

The Wessex family is very close with Lady Alexandra and her family, as The Countess is a godmother to Alexandra's daughter, Amelia Mary Carnegie Etherington (born 24 December 2001).
And Lady Alexandra is a godmother to daughter of Earl & Countess, Lady Louise.

3rd Duke of Fife was a well-known figure in Fife and Angus community – respected as an experienced and canny landowner who preferred to remain out of the public eye. You can read an obituary at The Scotsman, click here.
